Who Dat: Fantasy Football Week 11
By Sam Breiter
Quarterbacks:
Scott Tolzien (GB)– The quarterbacks in Green Bay are dropping like flies. Rodgers is out up to six weeks, and Seneca Wallace is done for the season. All the Packers have left is Tolzien, and they are running out of options except to use him. With strong receivers, Tolzien will put up some good fantasy numbers as long as he can stay away from throwing it to the other team. He has already proven that he can throw for a lot of yards, but his accuracy is questionable.
Week 10 Stats – 280 YDS, 1 TD, 2 INT, 12 PTS

Scott Tolzien is now the starting quarterback of the Green Bay Packers due to Aaron Rodgers’ injury (Via Milwaukee Journal Sentinel)
Running backs:
Andre Ellington (Ari)- Rashard Menenhall clearly isn’t what he use to be during his prime in Pittsburgh. Ellington not only demolished the Atlanta defense in week 8, but after coming off a bye, he still put up five yards per carry against a tough team in Houston. Clearly the Cardinals wanted him involved in some college-like plays, as they ran the wildcat with him a couple of times during Sundays game. Expect Ellington, to put up mind-boggling numbers against a terrible Jaguars defense in week 11.
Week 11 Stats-11 ATT, 55 RUSH YDS, 6 PTS
Andre Brown (NYG)- So another Andre, and his name isn’t Johnson, you’re kidding me right? But this is Who Dat isn’t it? Andre Brown. That name may sound a little familiar if you think back to last year. Wasn’t he that guy who had a couple of unbelievable games last year for the Giants? What happened to him? Injury happened, and in 2013, he had no role for the Giants until last week. This undrafted quick, and powerful runner had his season debut in week 10, and he had himself a week. The Giants haven’t had anyone involved in the run game that they could trust in 2013. David Wilson, Brandon Jacobs, Peyton Hills, and Da’Rel Scott all had chance this year and they didn’t come through. In his first week, Brown almost got more fantasy points then the rest of the guys had all season. If Brown can stay healthy, the Giants are going to want to get this kid involved as much as possible, especially with the surprise that they are still in contention.
Week 9 Stats- 30 ATT, 115 RUSH YDS, 1 TD, 17 PTS
Wide Receivers:
Jermaine Kearse (Sea)- With Sidney Rice out, Kearse has stepped into the third receiver role. Tate, and Baldwin have seen tight coverage, and aren’t elite receivers, so Kearse has proven to be a big red zone threat. Yes, Percy Harvin will be returning, but don’t expect until at least week 13 that he will be playing his normal routine. Kearse is a valuable asset to any team for the next two weeks, and maybe if he proves to be a productive receiver, for the rest of the season.
Week 10 Stats- 3 REC, 75 YDS, 1 TD, 13 PTS
Griff Whalen (Ind)- I don’t recommend Whalen for your standard 10-man league, but rather the 16-20 man leagues. With Reggie Wayne out, Whalen has slipped himself right into the Colts receiving game. He is partnered with his old Stanford teammate in Andrew Luck, so that will only help his cause. Additionally, even though he may not be a run and gun receiver like what many saw out of Tavon Austin last week, he is consistent and comes out with some nice plays. He is due for a touchdown this year, and don’t be surprised if he is the open man against a tough Titans defense in week 11.
Week 10 Stats- 3 REC, 36 YDS, 3 PTS
Tight Ends:
Rob Housler (Ari)- Due to injuries, Housler didn’t have a great start to the season. Yet, now this tough tight end is healthy and ready to blossom. Ever since week seven he has been red hot, and definitely will not slow down against the Jaguars this coming week. Housler has already proven to be a tough tight end to cover, even against tough defenses like Seattle and Houston.
Week 10 Stats- 4 REC, 57 YDS, 1 TD, 11 PTS

Fantasy Football Love/Hate Week 10
By Brett Malamud
Right off the bat, if your fantasy team had to go up against Robert Griffin III like mine did last night, I’m sorry. RG3 torched the Vikings defense for a total of 27 fantasy points in ESPN Standard Leagues. My other fantasy team had to face Adrian Peterson, who rushed for two touchdowns and scored 19 fantasy points in ESPN Standard Leagues. It’s pretty safe to say that I was a bit unhappy while watching the game from a fantasy football perspective. However, it’s not always about who starts, but rather who finishes. Before we get to it, a quick shout out to Mr. Roto, Matthew Berry, who has been doing Love/Hate for years. On that note here are my Love/Hates for week 10 in the NFL:
Quarterbacks I Love in Week 10
Jake Locker vs. Jacksonville Jaguars: Why would you think of starting this inconsistent quarterback, you ask? Well, the Jaguars defense has allowed double digits to quarterbacks in every single week.
Jay Cutler vs. Detroit Lions: While the Lions defense has allowed double digits to quarterbacks in every single week except for week one, that’s not the reason I would start Cutler. I believe that the Bears’ receivers performed well over the last few weeks without their fearless leader and with Cutler back, they’ll excel even more.
Philip Rivers vs. Denver Broncos: Rivers has been on fire for the entire season and has done very well for my fantasy team. I am expecting a big game out of him against a team that has a weak pass rush that allowed more than 300 yards to Chad Henne.
Quarterbacks I Hate in Week 10
Andy Dalton at Baltimore Ravens: Here’s a guy that was on my team and was traded in a blockbuster deal for Peyton Manning. Looking back, I was pretty happy that I got the top scoring fantasy player in the NFL. But Dalton did have a streak of his own over the last few weeks. However, the red headed Dalton struggled last week against the Miami Dolphins. Look for Dalton to struggle in a loud M&T Bank Stadium, where the Ravens have been red hot on defense.
Matt Ryan vs. Seattle Seahawks: Ah yes, Matty Ice. It’s fair to say that Matty Ice has gone ice cold, throwing seven interceptions in his last two games. It’ll definitely be tough for him to go up against the second best defense in the NFL.
Case Keenum at Arizona Cardinals: The streak has got to end, right?
Running Backs I Love in Week 10
Reggie Bush at Chicago Bears: Fans in Detroit have been voicing their pleasure at Lions home games with chants of “Reg-gie! Reg-gie!” Expect this to continue against a shaky Bears defense.
Eddie Lacy vs. Philadelphia Eagles: He’s scored double-digit points in each of the last four weeks, and without Aaron Rodgers on the field, expect him to do it again.
Zac Stacy at Indianapolis Colts: While Stacy is questionable at the moment, he should keep up his streak as well in this upcoming game if he plays.
Running Backs I Hate in Week 10
BenJarvus Green-Ellis at Baltimore Ravens: Giovani Bernard got the red zone carries and cashed in. That’s all that needs to be said.
Rashad Jennings at New York Giants: The 28 year old got his shot when Darren McFadden went down with injury. But don’t expect greatness against a team that has done nothing better than stopping the run.
DeAngelo Williams at San Francisco 49ers: The return of Jonathan Stewart has taken away many carries from Williams and so he’s not such a great option at the moment.
Wide Receivers I Love in Week 10
Keenan Allen vs. Denver Broncos: In what has been one of the biggest surprises of the season, Allen has helped make the Chargers offense electric. He’ll continue again this week.
Alshon Jeffery and Brandon Marshall vs. Detroit Lions: See Jay Cutler
Hakeem Nicks vs. Oakland Raiders: Nick Foles did throw seven touchdowns against this defense last week. I believe Nicks is due for a big game.
Wide Receivers I Hate in Week 10
Cecil Shorts at Tennessee Titans: There will be more coverage on Shorts this weekend, as Justin Blackmon is suspended.
Mike Wallace at Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Going up against Darrelle Revis on Monday Night Football is not a favorable matchup for Wallace, who hasn’t scored since week two.
Marvin Jones at Baltimore Ravens: If Dalton struggles, so will Jones. I mean, you can’t throw it to yourself, right Hakeem Nicks?
Tight Ends I Love in Week 10
Antonio Gates vs. Denver Broncos: Gates is ranked the number two wide receiver by Matthew Berry this week. Expect Rivers to find him for a TD or two.
Garrett Graham at Arizona Cardinals: The Arizona defense has not been able to contain tight ends this year and so Graham could make for an interesting play.
Jason Witten at New Orleans Saints: Witten is coming off of a great week against Minnesota last week. This one is expected to be a shootout, so expect Witten to be heavily involved.
Tight Ends I Hate in Week 10
Jared Cook at Indianapolis Colts: Cook had a good week last week, but it was his first since week one. The Colts are in the top 10 against tight ends this year so it’s not really a good play.
Defenses I Love in Week 10
Tennesee Titans vs. Jacksonville Jaguars: They are playing the Jaguars so…
Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Buffalo Bills: With EJ Manuel first coming back from injury, don’t expect a great game from him.
Defenses I Hate in Week 10
Chicago Bears vs. Detroit Lions: The Bears just haven’t been themselves this season and now they have to play a scary Lions team.
Dallas Cowboys at New Orleans Saints: Sunday Night Football. Superdome. Drew Brees. Doesn’t look so good for the Cowboys defense.

Who Dat: Fantasy Football Week 10
By: Sam Breiter
Quarterbacks:
Case Keenum (HOU)– No Matt Schaub, no problem. In Keenum’s first week playing for the Texans he surprised many, especially against a tough Kansas City defense. Yet, after a bye week, Keenum didn’t show any setbacks, putting up flawless numbers against the Colts. He may have just earned himself a starting job for the rest of the season.
Week 9 Stats- 350 YDS, 3 TD, 0 INT, 28 PTS
Josh McCown (CHI)- Jay Cutler is a dominant quarterback when healthy, but after he suffered a groin injury, he has missed some time. In his last two games, McCown has given fantasy owners a reason to smile. He’s not putting up Peyton Manning numbers, but he has quickly proven to be a reliable quarterback that will put points on the board.
Week 9 Stats- 272 YDS, 2 TD, O INT, 20 PTS
(UPDATE: JAY CUTLER WILL BE THE STARTING QB ON SUNDAY)
Running backs:
Mike James (TB)- Doug Martin is definitely having one of those sophomore slumps. After a great rookie year, Martin only has one touchdown the whole year, and has only rushed for over 100 yards once. With Martin out, Mike James proved his potential against an overwhelming Seattle defense putting up terrific numbers.
Week 9 Stats-28 ATT, 158 RUSH YDS, 19 PTS
Zac Stacy (STL)- First of all, I think his parents ran out of ink while writing what they wanted to name this future running back. Stacy, since getting the majority of the Rams carries in week 5 has shown nothing but improvement. He’s proven to be a quick, and a powerful back, and will see more carries with a struggling passing game.
Week 9 Stats- 27ATT, 127 RUSH YDS, 51 REC YDS, 2 TD, 29 PTS
Wide Receivers:
Aaron Dobson (NE)- After weekly getting a couple of catches for a couple dozen yards, Dobson broke out in week nine. He’s part of a core of Patriots receivers that no one really knows, but could this be the one that everyone remembers. They clearly like this man in New England, and with Gronkowski back, less defenders will be getting in the way of the rookie from Marshall.
Week 9 Stats- 5 REC, 130 YDS, 2 TD, 25 PTS
Greg Salas (NYJ)- Last week, since 2011 was the first time Salas touched a football during a regular season game. He struggled with the Rams, but seems like a perfect fit into the Jets system. Jeremy Kerley was taken out of the game, and Salas proved that he should be on the field. This may be our biggest Who Dat so far, but Geno doesn’t have many options left and Salas should expect more playing time.
Week 9 Stats- 2 REC, 57 YDS

Greg Salas has come out of nowhere for the Jets this season, and should be carefully watched by owners (Via Fox)
Tight Ends:
Timothy Wright (TB)- Tight ends are hard to come by, especially in fantasy. Wright has shown in the last two weeks that he can pick up decent yards, and get touchdowns. Wright might not be a great blocking tight end, but it’s a good thing that doesn’t count in fantasy. Expect Wright to be picking up close to double digits in points, weekly.
Week 9 Stats- 4 REC, 58 YDS, 1 TD, 11 PTS
Zach Ertz (Phi)- Clearly his parents weren’t as lazy as Stacy’s. With Nick Foles as quarterback, Ertz has seen more chances compared to when Vick was running the offense. Yes Celek is still the number one tight end, but Ertz saw more work then the veteran last week. Celek is having his worst year since 2008, if Ertz keeps up the good work maybe he will find himself a spot in the starting lineup.
Week 9 Stats- 5 REC, 42 YDS, 1 TD

Who Dat: Fantasy Basketball Week One
By: Sam Breiter
Welcome to “Who Dat”, a weekly guide to learning about fantasy basketball players who are seeing noticeable success. No household names here, but players who have shown huge fantasy value and should be considered being picked up if not already taken. Obviously you can’t expect the limited success will last all season, as these players have not yet proven themselves, but we’re not going to give you any reason as to why not. It doesn’t matter if you’re a category or a points league guy, these players have made a statement in both league formats. So without further a do, here’s Who Dat for week one.
Michael Carter Williams (PHI)– Two weeks ago if you were to walk around, and were to ask people if they ever heard of Michael Carter Williams most people wouldn’t have an answer. Today, people cant stop talking about the six foot six point guard from Syracuse. He was the 11th pick in the NBA draft, and has already outplayed and beaten Lebron James and Derrick Rose, two of the leagues best. He has proven to be quick, explosive, productive, and a great decision maker. In his debut he almost got a triple double, but don’t expect that to be the only time.
Week One Stats– 20.7PPG, 9.0APG, 4.4 Steals, 46.8FG%
Miles Plumlee (PHX)- After Marcin Gortat was traded from the Suns to the Wizards, the expectations for the Suns rebounding game diminished. Yet, maybe the Suns knew that Gortat would just get in the way of the leagues next rebounding machine. Plumlee wasn’t given a chance as part of the Pacers last year, not even averaging four minutes a game. Plumlee has shown that he is an animal inside the paint on defense and offense.
Week One Stats- 15.5PPG, 14.0RPG, 3.0BLK, 56FG%, 37.5 MIN
Vitor Faverani (BOS)- His name may get confused for a famous pasta dish at your local Italian restaurant, but this 25-year-old Brazilian center has given the Celtics something to look forward to. Clearly he is no Kevin Garnett, but he has been putting up similar numbers to the future hall of famer, in just his first few games.
Week One Stats- 12.5PPG, 10.5RPG, 4.5BLK, 53.3FG%, 32 MIN
Alec Burks (UTA)- Burks faced two years of being a role-playing prospect for Utah, but now with an improved role the shooting guard for the Jazz is receiving real minutes. In the early goings of the year his shot looks better then ever, and on the defensive end he looks very motivated. Utah doesn’t look very competitive this year, but Burks will have a huge role in scoring buckets, and running the offense.
Week One Stats- 18.0 PPG, 3.7RPG, 3.0APG, 48.8FG%, 31 MIN
Jodie Meeks (LAL)- With no Kobe for now, and Steve Nash dealing with injury and old age, where do the Lakers go? Well, the answer is Jodie Meeks. The Lakers have no one to go to, and Meeks has been nothing, but ideal for the Lakers. The 26-year-old shooting guard has never been a clear-cut NBA starter, and his job is definitely not safe for this year. Yet, even if pulled out of the starting lineup when Black Mamba returns, expect him to be the number one guy taken off the bench if he continues the hot run he currently is on.
Week One Stats- 13.7PPG, 4.0RPG, 52FG%, 41.7PT%,

Fantasy Football First Half Awards and What to Expect in the Coming Weeks
By: Josh Halilej
So far this NFL season has been full of offensive firepower and high scoring games, which translates to BIG fantasy points. There have been standout individual performances (Calvin Johnson- 329 yards receiving, 1 TD or Peyton Manning- 462 yards passing, 7 TDs), and surprising seasons too (Andy Dalton ranked #6 in points among QBs, and Knowshon Moreno who has outscored every other RB/WR except Jamaal Charles.) This article is going to give you my opinion on who I think has performed the best comparative to their value so far, and who you can look out for in the future and during the playoff push. Remember, this is MY opinion, so you can take it or leave it as you wish. So here’s this season’s fantasy dream team:
Quarterback:
Best overall: Peyton Manning
Best value: Phillip Rivers
Worst value: Tom Brady
Let me explain, Peyton shouldn’t be anywhere else on the list of best fantasy QBs this season. He’s been consistent, he’s produced touchdowns and yards, and he hasn’t turned it over. He has exactly what you need to dominate a league and achieve ultimate bragging rights. Rivers has been sort of under the radar this season, because, well, that’s what happens when you’re on the Chargers. He’s quietly thrown for over 400 yards 3 times, and only has a total of 5 turnovers this year. In my league, where he went undrafted, he was the best pickup of the season so far at ANY position. Brady on the other hand, has been the opposite. He has had difficulty gaining chemistry with his new, rookie receivers Kenbrell Thompkins and Aaron Dobson, but he has his savior in Rob Gronkowski who is back from his surgery and adds a new threat and more receiver depth on this roster.
Running Back:
Best overall: Jamaal Charles
Best Value: Knowshon Moreno
Worst Value: CJ Spiller
Jamaal, oh Jamaal. He hasn’t done anything wrong this year consistently getting at least 16 carries and gaining at least 100 total yards of offense in each game so far, PLUS 8 total TDs. Moreno has had similar consistencies to Charles with 9 total TDs, and around 15 carries a week in support of Peyton. The disappointment in the running back spot comes from none other than CJ Spiller. Before the season I thought that he was going to excel in Buffalo and help push them to the playoffs, but I couldn’t grab him in my league, and now I’m thankful.
Wide Receiver:
Best Overall: Dez Bryant
Best Value: Josh Gordon
Worst Value: Randall Cobb
Why not Megatron? Because he had one game with 36 ESPN standard fantasy points that really influenced him in terms of points. I have to give the starting position to Dez because of his consistency so far, but for the rest of the season, expect more domination from Calvin. Josh Gordon, although he missed the first 2 games of the season with a suspension, has been proven to be any Browns QB’s favorite target excelling with all Hoyer, Weeden, and Campbell throwing him the ball. Cobb can’t help his injury, but he had high expectations coming into the season, and only played 2 full games.
Tight End:
Best overall: Jimmy Graham
Best Value: Jordan Cameron
Worst Value: Rob Gronkowski
Jimmy Graham has been simply exciting this season making catches look easy, and making his good buddy Drew Brees look good. On top of that, he had a 5 game stretch to open up the season where he had 93 points total (which would still lead the league now). Cameron has been a welcome sight for most fantasy owners who thought he would have no opportunities because of the Browns, but he has grabbed 6 TDs this year and is averaging 11.5 points per game, which isn’t too shabby for a free agent find. Now, Gronkowski is interesting because reports were saying that he could have came back week 5, but made his first appearance in week 7. Since then in his 2 games of action Gronk has 13 total points and no touchdowns which isn’t exactly comforting to owners who drafted him in high/mid rounds.
D/ST:
Best overall: Chiefs
Best Value: Chiefs
Worst Value: Broncos
The Chiefs have been unstoppable on defense causing turnovers, not allowing points or yards, and just wreaking havoc in the backfield with their premier edge rushers Justin Houston and Tamba Hali. Houston is second in the NFL in sacks with 11, and Hali is tops in the league with 4 forced fumbles. The Broncos haven’t lived up to their stellar defense from last year, and have taken part in quite a few shootouts of offense vs. offense. Expect Von Miller to be the main factor on their future success.
Kicker:
Best overall: Matt Prater
Best Value: Matt Prater
Worst Value: Sebastian Janikowski
When it doubt, Matt Prater it out. He has gotten an incredible amount of points from just PATs and is not going to stop if Peyton keeps it up. I have no idea why Sea bass isn’t performing like the machine he was last year, but with a paltry 36 points through 8 weeks, he is the worst kicker in the NFL who has maintained a starting job.
Who to watch out for:
QB: Matt Stafford- He doesn’t have a tough schedule ahead of him and has many weapons.
RB: Gio Bernard- A rookie on the rise has had a few good games this season that could potentially give him the full time job over the Law Firm in Cincinatti.
WR: Calvin Johnson- need I say more?
TE: Jordan Reed- RG3 has found a liking to this guy as a main target. Watch out.
D/ST: Panthers- Despite the trading of Jon Beason to the Giants, these guys are playing solid football and just might surprise a few people with a playoff push
K: Matt Prater- He’s just going to keep on kicking these extra points until the season is over
Let me hear what you guys think about my picks in the comments and leave any of your own if you want. Just remember that there’s still a lot of football left to play.

Fantasy Basketball Waiver Wire Pickups
By Josh Wicker
Even though the season is just starting, the NBA still has many surprises and uncertainties. Fantasy owners are still unsure if players’ performances are the real deal or just a fluke. Here are some must adds for the Fantasy Basketball 2013-14 season:
Standard League Finds:
Michael Carter Williams (78.8% owned in ESPN Leagues)- Almost a quadruple double in his first career game. That was an incredible performance and if he is still available in your league, he is a must add. He is on a team that has potential but lack depth at the point guard position. It appears that the 76ers are giving him a main role with the team and as a result, fantasy owners should take notice.

Michael Carter-Williams enters his first season with high expectations, after a breakout debut game (Via Philly Sports Live)
Deandre Jordan (58.2%)- I cannot understand how he was not taken in most leagues as a mid to late round pick. He provides points, rebounds and blocks on a very good Clippers team. He is also getting a very high amount of minutes and of course, you cannot forget about the lobs. Even though Doc Rivers does not like the term, Lob City still exists and Jordan is one of the two main beneficiaries.
Reggie Jackson (46.8%)- KD can not do everything for the Thunder. He needs a Russell Westbrook to soften the load. But, since Westbrook is injured, the Thunder are looking at Jackson as a solid starter at the point. He might even play at the shooting guard position when Westbrook gets back. He can provide steals, points and assists and should be picked up.
Miles Plumlee (8%)- Since Marcin Gortat was traded to the Wizards, a spot has opened up at center, and it seems like Plumlee has got a good grasp on it. He performed very well (18 points, 15 rebounds) and the only competition is with unproven rookie Alex Len. The Suns organization plans on giving Plumlee a lot of playing time and fantasy owners need to capitalize on this.
Taj Gibson (3.16%)- He is clearly the first big man off the bench for the Chicago Bulls. The only reason that he is not starting is because the Bulls are very deep with big men. However, they have one of the better front courts in the league. He provides solid rebounding and points for the Bulls and also can for your fantasy team.
Deeper League Finds:
This section contains players who are owned in less than 2% of ESPN leagues, but can be high reward or should be owned by more people in larger sized leagues.
Andrew Nicholson (1.6%)- Even though he is not playing many minutes, Nicholson is still providing 30+ minute like stats. He is currently one of the first off the bench for the Magic, but could easily become a starter because of his stellar play.
Randy Foye (0.6%)- When you get this far down in percent owned, normally all of the players are backups. But Foye is the starting shooting guard for the Nuggets alongside Ty Lawson and will provide points and three pointers. He is a scoring threat and can even add a couple of rebounds.
Boris Diaw (0.4%)- One of my personal favorite players, Diaw will
normally be brought in for defense, but can also pass extremely well and nail the occasional three. He currently plays about 20-25 minutes a game but that can increase because of the old age of the Spurs. He is a scrappy player who will fight for rebounds and is a good add in deep 16 or more team leagues.
